Presentation of the "Momentos Disfrutas" initiative in Andalusia (Spain)
The 'Momentos Disfruta' initiative, part of the European project 'Schools4Health', was presented in Seville (Andalusia, Spain) on 27 September.
This initiative is an adaptation of the “Snack & Chill” best practice, developed in Belgium by Gezond Leven to promote the consumption of healthy snacks (mainly fruit and vegetables) among adolescents, serving them in an attractive way in comfortable spaces in high schools, so that students can choose healthier options and enjoy the experience.
More than 120 people attended the event, which was held at the headquarters of the MAS Foundation and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Center in Seville.
After the opening ceremony, chaired by authorities from the three Departments involved of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Health, Education & Agriculture) and the MAS Foundation, the project and the adaptation of best practice to be implemented in Andalusia were presented, followed by a round table discussion with the participation of 6 people representing the different stakeholders involved in the project al local level (school director, student, teacher, school nurse, student’s mother & mayor of city). In this round table, the expectations and the different perspectives on 'Momentos Disfruta' were shared.
The event concluded on the terrace of the SDG Center of the MAS Foundation, with the enjoyment of the moment enlivened by a live music group made up of teachers and students of “Heliche” high schools at Olivares (Seville), and the tasting of healthy snacks prepared for the occasion by students of the schools participating in the project, with the support of two teachers from “Atenea” high school at Mairena del Aljarafe (Seville). The aim was to show in situ what is intended to be carried out in the 5 high schools.
Piloting of "Momentos Disfruta"
The pilot phase of 'Momentos Disfruta' will be carried out during the 2024-25 school year in 5 high schools located in the area covered by the Aljarafe-Sevilla Norte Health District of the Andalusian Health Service: Jacarandá (Brenes, Seville), Heliche (Olivares, Seville), El Valle (Hinojos, Huelva), Sotero Hernández (San Juan de Aznalfarache, Seville) and Atenea (Mairena del Aljarafe, Seville), coordinated by the health promotion team of the Health District and supported by their respective Town Councils.
A group of students from each high school will participate in the project, preparing and offering of the products in a comfortable space or as a target population. The activity will take place at least once a week, between January and May. To develop and monitor of the project, five local committees have been set up, one for each high school and a technical committee, at the level of the Health District, with the participation of representatives of all the parties involved.
The Regional Government of Andalusia participates as a partner in Schools4Health, through the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, within the framework of the Andalusian Strategy for the Promotion of Healthy Living and the Andalusian Comprehensive Plan for Childhood Obesity, in collaboration with the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, within the framework of the Innovation and Learning Improvement Program (CIMA), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, in the framework of the EU School Program for the Consumption of Fruit, Vegetables and Milk.
This project also has the collaboration of the MAS Foundation and the MAS Group through its 'Raices' programme, for the distribution of healthy seasonal and local foods.
